Shafiq Husayn & Marc de Clive-Lowe

  • Starline Social Club Oakland United States (map)

A devastating live performer, the Marc de Clive-Lowe experience is marked by impromptu studio production created on stage from scratch, using drum machines, keyboards and effects. The end result: live remixes birthed on stage for each and every gig. Based in LA for the past 7 years after a decade entrenched in the cultural epicenter of London's broken beat scene, MdCL performs solo REMIX:LIVE sets targeted straight for the dancefloor; leads his live band with his party CHURCH (also the name of his latest album); educates with masterclasses and workshops; and collaborates with a ever-widening range of artists and creatives. Think of MdCL like a revolutionary Quincy Jones for a now generation - melding the science of beat-making and technology with organic musicianship and tradition.

Visionary master musician, SHAFIQ HUSAYN, grew up in Oakland, Watts, South Central, Texas and the South Bronx where he experienced Hip Hop in it's infancy, joined Zulu Nation and ran with pioneers Afrika Bambatta and Afrika Islam. Co-founder of Sa Ra Creative Partners and contributor to Rober Glasper's Grammy-winning BLACK RADIO. 'Sa-Ra' is another Kemetic term, meaning son of the sun or child of the cosmos. As a member of Sa-Ra Creative Partners and a musical collaborator in his own right, Shafiq has musical connections direct and indirect with the likes of J Dilla, Questlove, Platinum Pied Pipers, N*E*R*D, James Poyser, Jill Scott, Talib Qweli, Jay Electronica, and not least Erykah Badu, who has said he is the only person she will allow to write lyrics for her.
